  • For those who need specialist help, offers free confidential support for adults and children by telephone, email or face to face.

National telephone helpline is Monday – Friday 9.30 – 5.00pm with extended hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings when we are open until 8pm.

The Evelyn Centre (Area R)

The PALS Bereavement Service at Northampton General Hospital provides sympathetic information, advice and support to bereaved relatives and carers by helping them through the practical arrangements that follow the death of an adult patient at the hospital including:

  • Registering the death
  • Funeral Director
  • The Coroner and Coroner’s Office

Eligibility

To get a funeral payment you must be responsible for the funeral and

  • Claim in time – you must apply within 3 months of the funeral
  • Get certain benefits or tax credits: Income Support, Income Based jobseekers’ allowance, income related employment and support allowance, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, the disability or severe disability element of working tax credit, one of the extra elements of child tax credit or universal credit
  • Meet the rules on your relationship with the deceased: The partner of the deceased when they died, a close relative or close friend of deceased, the parent of a still born baby, the parent of a deceased child, if they were under 16 (or under 20 and not in full time education)
