Care & Repair Northamptonshire
Provides a range of measures for vulnerable householders, regardless of tenure of property, including:
- Handyman, small plumbing works, home security works, keysafes
- Domestic abuse measures including specialist sanctuary rooms
- Minor adaptations and falls prevention, including grab rails and ramps
- Child home safety measures including
- Warm at Home service (inc repairs, draught exclusion, secondary glazing)
- Garden clearance and fencing, removal of unwanted household items
All technicians are employed by us, are DBS checked, wear uniform, carry ID and drive company vans. We do not charge for assessments of work and customers are provided with a written quotation to accept prior to work commencing. We are registered with Trading Standards.
- Charge – subsidised rate of £15.00 ph plus VAT and cost of materials
- Hardship Fund – for those most in need to fund essential works.
- Warm at Home Service – FREE of charge to those eligible
- Child Home Safety project – FREE of charge to those eligible
- We also carry out works on behalf of partners across the county where other charges apply
Eligibility
Any one of the following:
- Age (50+)
- Disability or long-term conditions
- Low income (in receipt of means tested benefits)
- Other vulnerable due to being a victim/living in fear of crime
- Families with young children * (additional eligibility may be required for some services)

Housing Options Team (Homelessness)
Kettering Borough Council’s Housing Options Team provide advice and assistance to people regarding:
• Homeless or threatened with homelessness
• Need of advice about the housing options available to them.
• Advice on the Housing Allocation Scheme, called Keyways.
• Depending on circumstances we can offer a range of services including access to privately rented accommodation, low cost home ownership, social housing, refuges or supported accommodation.
Eligibility
All households will qualify for advice, however to qualify for emergency assistance; you must satisfy the priority need criteria in the Housing Act 1996 as amended 2002.

Housing Income Team
The team are responsible for managing the rent accounts of all Kettering Borough Council tenants. This includes tenants in general needs housing, housing for older people, travellers sites & garage sites. (Garages can also be rented by non-tenants). We are also responsible for the provision of the management service for the Council’s Leaseholders

LifePlan is a free service offering 1-1 support and guidance to assist customers to:

Mayday Trust (Personal Transitions Service)
At Mayday, we are passionate about working with people going through tough times such as homelessness, leaving prison, care or coming out of psychiatric hospital. We provide direct support through our Asset Coaches.
- We don’t need to know all the issues – we focus on each person’s unique strengths, talents and abilities.
Within Northamptonshire we work with people aged 16 upwards who may be experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We also offer accommodation within Northamptonshire, please see our website or talk to a member of our Housing team for more details.

Private Sector Housing

Private Sector Housing
The main functions the Private Sector Housing team undertakes are;
- Providing mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) to assist people with a disability to remain in their own home.
- Responding to complaints from tenants and other residents regarding problem private properties and carrying out inspections under HHSRS where necessary.
- Inspecting Houses in Multiple Occupation to ensure they meet health and safety requirements and taking steps to ensure that properties that require a mandatory licence are licensed.
- Carrying out home inspections for Immigration Purposes.

Silver Service

Silver Service
Silver Service is the support service we provide to our Sheltered Housing and Lifeline personal alarm customers.
- Sheltered housing is for people over 55 who wish to remain in the community and live independently but would benefit from additional support.
- We have self-contained flats or bungalows, each with a dedicated Scheme Manager and the additional assistance of the Support Worker Team
- Completely personalised service and although they do not provide care, they are the link to other agencies and services.
- ‘Lifeline’ personal alarms for peace of mind by pressing a button, for vulnerable customers or those with health problems
Eligibility
Sheltered Housing is for people over 55
Lifeline is for Kettering Council tenants only
Hours and Duration
Both services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
Referral Process
Sheltered housing: applicants need to complete a Keyways application online first and then we will arrange a home visit to complete a sheltered housing assessment.

• Soup kitchen provides homemade soup, roll, butter and cheese, tea, coffee or cold drinks Thursday afternoons 4pm – 6pm
• Food parcels are also available on the day of the Soup Kitchen and at other times when the Church is manned usually between 8.30 – 9am and 3 – 3.30 pm

Support for tenants who are experiencing difficulties within their private rented home including issues with setting up a new accommodation, dealing with domestic utilities, benefits.

Referrals can be made by the tenant, their landlord or management agent, or other supporting agencies, providing the tenant agrees.
Further Information
- An appointment will be arranged which will include an introduction to the service and to determine how the support can be offered to a tenant.
- Appointments thereafter will be arranged either at the tenant’s home address or at the council offices, depending on the circumstances.
- The service offers a friendly and direct approach helping tenants to achieve sustainment of a tenancy and the confidence to be independent in the future.
